Ice Floats On Water

After much trial and error today, walking through slush and deceptively deep snow I discovered why I was getting so wet: slushy ice floats on puddle water.  The curiously horizontal and very flat road with patches of slush was not road, but the surface of a puddle.  Especially where the road meets the kerb.

Not the road: either a wet puddle or frozen slippery ice of death.
