Going back to work after 10 days in South America is a come-down, even though I worked from home on my laptop all day. On the plus side last night we waited at International Arrivals after we’d passed through as Mon & Christian and their boys arrived an hour later. We had a great night catching up, Jani sleeping on the blow-up mattress all to himself, Mon & C on our daybed, and Leo in a travel pram bassinet. We ate pizza for dinner as it was late on a public holiday by the time we got home and we had no food in our fridge (other than apples and brown bananas). Dan and I took turns besotted with Leo and his little mohawk. Jani refused to believe that we didn’t understand German and kept asking us things in German (could we make a fort on the balcony? Could he take the garbage to the refuse chute?) and looking cross when we didn’t reply.
I didn’t get to have dinner with them tonight as it was the Abdo/Women’s Imaging Fellows exit dinner in the evening. Martin made a touching Powerpoint presentation for the Abdo fellows. I can’t believe we’ve almost been here a year already. I’m sure it will be this time next year before we know it and we’ll be dreading packing up things to move home.
