Day 585 Death

Yesterday Dan was quiet.  It was the 4-year anniversary of his Mum’s death from metastatic breast cancer.  We were at the hospice that night and leaving to go home when Tracy stopped breathing, and we were called back from the corridor outside her room.  Tracy was surrounded by family that evening.  We’d played a game of cards the night before.  We never finished the game.

I got home from work late yesterday.  Dan had cooked chicken meatball soup for dinner, before heading out into the -7ºC but chilly with wind chill darkness to attend a talk at the ROM.  When he got home we finished the season of Call The Midwife.  The episode was about death.  A mother was dying, from metastatic cancer.  Spooky coincidence.  We were both quiet by the credits.
