The Hotel Del Coronado is a wooden building, the floors undulate and slant and creak as you walk on them. We slept poorly, either I stuffed up the air conditioning or I overheated with the down duvet and down pillows. Getting up at 06:00 to register at 06:30 in time for the breakfast and 07:00 sessions was a challenge (I’d expected anaesthetic or surgical conferences to start that early, but a radiology conference… 08:00, if not 09:00… maybe after lunch). There is a lack of espresso coffee so I struggled to keep myself from yawning for the first three sessions, thankful for the brisk traipsing between buildings to change venues according to the presentations I wanted to attend. I picked up a few points, which was useful. To balance out the academic program tonight we also did some socialising; T and H had booked a table for dinner downstairs and invited S, Daniel and myself. It was cool at sunset but then got chilly. I was glad to have brought a jacket.
